File Your F.A.F.S.A. (a.s.a.p.!)

NOW is the time to file your F.A.F.S.A

Upcoming workshops, sponsored by C.O.A.S.T. and provided by the Finance Authority of Maine, allow students/parents to work with a college access counselor to answer questions about financial aid and financing education. Participants can file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid  (F.A.F.S.A.) on-line during the workshop.

Wednesday, February 1, 6:00pm York Middle School. Call Amanda Cutrer 207-363-4214 x2113

Monday, February 13, 6:30pm Kennebunk High School. Call Paula Abramson 207-985-1116

What's the Big Deal?

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (F.A.F.S.A.) is required to determine all need-based financial aid and all federal student aid including: grants, school-based scholarships, federal loans and work-study options. Many national and state scholarships also require a FAFSA on file.  Financial aid awards and especially grant money (which a student does not need to repay) is determined on a first-come-first-served basis. Waiting to file means missed deadlines and missed access to financial aid! York County Community College has a great chart demonstrating WHY one should file early, here.

Any person applying to or even considering college classes in 2012 needs to file. Don't wait to be "formally" accepted! Once you receive your financial aid award, you can choose to accept all, some or none of it--but it must be on file!

Pam Crate at the Finance Authority of Maine (www.famemaine.com) will help with information about financing your college education and filing your FAFSA. You can also check with the financial aid office at a school you are interested in.  Feel free to contact C.O.A.S.T. with questions or for more information! findeventide@gmail.com
